Fries With That: 7 Amusing Deep Fried Food Signs

Much like their consumers, deep fried foods are spreading! From State Fairs to street food, the oily edibles (and expanded waistlines) are here to stay.

Mars Heart Attacks

No one could have imagined that adding an unusual dessert item – deep fried Mars chocolate bars – to an otherwise unremarkable chip shop’s menu would basically turn the eatery into a deep fried mars bar shop that incidentally sold fish & chips.

Speaking of things inci-dental, patrons need to decide if their next appointment is with a tooth doc or a cardiologist. Should one have delusions of immortality AND a sweet-tooth, you’ll have no trouble finding Cafe Piccante: go to Broughton Street in Edinburgh, Scotland and look for the neon sign and megawatt black red & yellow window card. The Choke’s On You

They don’t call Castrovile, CA the Artichoke Center of the World for nuthin’, and this sign touting deep fried artichokes advertises just one of the many ways this edible member of the thistle family (ouch!) can be enjoyed. You’ll note the fact that the deep fried ‘chokes sold here are HOT, because who in their right mind would eat a COLD deep fried foodstuff – beer, butter and ice cream not included. Snack Shack Smack

Feelin’ peckish in Jasper, Texas? There’s no need to go “hangry” when the Redneck Snack Shack serves up all of your favorite East Texas delicacies including bacon-wrapped Deep Fried Gator Eggs with jalapeno peppers. The photographer laments the diner wasn’t open when they drove by in April of 2015 so it’s not known whether their signature recipe is tasty or not. Could be worse, though: Jasper is the Butterfly Capital of Texas so just be glad those aren’t one of the deep-fried menu options. (image via Judy Gallagher)

Ramp It Up

If you’re in Mount Morris, PA, it’s probably because you’re attending the AMA Motocross Championships series “High Point Nationals”, held annually on Father’s Day weekend. There’s more to Mount Morris than motocross, mind you… well, there’s ONE thing more, which is the annual Ramp Fest featuring the ubiquitous wild leek in a host of lip-smackin’ variations including – of course – deep fried. Hopefully the weather is fine – you’ll be wanting to roll the windows down on the drive home if you know what we mean and we think you do. (image via William Grieb)
