Power Plants: 10 More Overgrown Abandoned Vehicles

Leaf the driving to us! Power doesn’t get much greener than these abandoned cars and trucks whose verdant overgrowth accelerates when you step on the grass.

Fireweed

The buzzing sound you hear under this retired Pontiac Trans Am’s missing-in-inaction Screaming Chicken hood is NOT the mechanical purr of a 455ci Super Duty engine, rather the somnolent wanderings of honey bees and bumblebees. Too bad this car’s not a Dodge Super Bee or a Dart Stinger but as the old expression goes, one in the hand and two under the bush. (images above via zombieite)

Needs Elbow Greece

The term “Eurotrash” might be a tad pejorative but it this case it’s well-deserved. Caught in the mountain wilds of rural Greece, the permanently parked Opel Rekord and Renault Dauphine convertible appear to be waging a slow-motion battle against both relentless rust and invasive vegetation with the Renault seeing the worst of each. The French drop-top still shows hints of its original blue (bleu?) paint, soon to be overtaken by shades of brown and olive. (image via Vassilis)

Sunflower Power

This abandoned Daihatsu Cuore dating from the early 1980s was sold in 2-door and 4-door body styles yet the marooned maroon sedan above would appear to be a convertible. We’re guessing someone handy with power tools (or perhaps an angry ex out for revenge) performed the DIY convertible conversion, allowing the sun to shine in… and a crop of sunflowers to grow out. Tree On The Three

Much about the above abandoned Hillman Imp isn’t what it appears to be. First off, the tree “growing” up from the hoodless front compartment is actually behind the vehicle. Secondly, that patch of green grass has taken root in the car trunk – the long-gone and little-lamented Imp was a rear-engined vehicle. (image via Riley)

Edsel Logic

People didn’t show much love for Ford’s infamous Edsel when the “Oldsmobile sucking on a lemon” made its ignominious debut back in 1958. Plants sure do love it now, though! It may be “lights out” (literally) for this long-lost sophomore edition but an abundance of natural photons have endowed the black beauty with laurels never awarded when it was road-worthy.
