Sipping Point: CHEW Redefines The Reuseable Straw

Drawing Straws

CHEW’s original concept was developed by a team of three Singapore-based industrial designers: Lim Jing Jie (22), Tommy Cheong (24), and Kevin Yeo (24). “The three of us have always considered buying reusable straws but never quite found one that met our needs,” according to the inventive trio, shown above. “Along with many major companies choosing to ban reusable straws, we decided it was time to do something about it.” The time is indeed now, as public authorities are beginning to board the “ban-the-straws” bandwagon as well.

Case Closed

CHEW may be a simple drinking straw at heart but its ingenious design addresses many of the issues that have heretofore held back similar products. First and foremost, CHEW is a portable personal drinking device that goes with you, and stops when it’s time to sip. Removable soft tips available in a choice of textured patterns allow users to gently “chew” their straws without chipping a tooth – one of the main drawbacks of hard metal straws.
