2017 Comedy Wildlife Photography Winners

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards for 2017 may make you grin but for the photographers, snapping these humorous shots was no laughing matter.

“Conservation Through Competition” is the motto of the third annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards and in this case, the photographers are competing for laughs as well as awards. As for the subjects, well, they’re just displaying their natural talents for being themselves. Take our lead-in set of four consecutive photos taken by Tibor Kercz. Titled “Help” for obvious reasons, the images combined to win Kercz both the Amazing Internet Portfolio prize and the award for Overall Winner of this year’s competition.

This radiant rodent is soooo high… like, maybe two feet off the ground, man. One might say he/she’s in Wonderland. “The Laughing Dormouse” as photographer Andrea Zampatti calls it, features a dormouse perched atop some yarrow flowers in the Italian mountains, and it’s the winner of the Alex Walker’s Serian On The Land Category for 2017.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… both? Serendipitous timing was the key when photographer John Threlfall snapped “Duck Speed”… Fly United, anyone? The chuckle-worthy conjunction captured the 2017 Kenya Airways In The Air Category for Threlfall.

Slow and steady wins the race, and it also won the Padi Under The Sea Category for photographer Troy Mayne. “Slap” features a no-nonsense sea turtle with no time to listen to his toothy fish friend gossiping.
