Electric Motorcycle Gets 124-Mile Range on a Single Charge

The futuristic, sustainable Johammer J1 is the first electric motorcycle to reach beyond 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) in range on just one charge. An innovative new battery system enables the bike to rival gasoline-powered motorcycles in stamina with a stack of lithium-ion cells that retain 85% of their capacity after 124,000 miles.

With its sleek, unusual design, the J1 sort of looks like something out of a movie, and it could definitely change the game as far as powering motorcycles goes, but don’t expect it to whizz down the road too fast. The compact 11kW, 14-horsepower electric motor can push 400 pounds of bike and rider at an electronically-limited top speed of 62mph.

Recharging the battery to 80% takes 3.5 hours from a 240v socket or 80 minutes with the optional 400v charger. There are no conventional gauges – speed, charge and other pertinent info is displayed in the two high-resolution rear view mirrors.

Unlike so many of the concept bikes that get passed around the internet, the Johammer J1 is actually in production and available at a starting price of $31,860.
