The UNICEF Tap Project is an annual nationwide campaign that provides clean, safe drinking water and adequate sanitation to children around the world. Did you know it costs just $5 for UNICEF to give one child safe drinking water for 200 days? The UNICEF Tap Project has been doing just that, with generous help from people like you.

UNICEF is currently active in more than 100 countries around the world, working to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities while promoting safe hygiene practices through local educational initiatives. UNICEF and its partners have been hard at work since 1990 and thanks to their efforts, more than 2 billion people have gained access to clean drinking water.

Considering no one can survive without water, those fortunate to be living in developed nations often take clean water for granted. It’s shocking to think that in the year 2013, nearly 900 million people do not have safe, clean water to drink and more than 2.5 billion people live without a proper toilet. The lack of these basic necessities is more than just inconvenient, it’s a day-to-day life-threatening situation.

While you and I strive to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day, over 4,000 children under the age of five die of water-borne diseases in those same 24 hours. As awful as that sounds, there are answers and remedies you can participate in without disrupting your daily routine, such as the UNICEF Tap Project and your social network.
