Given the opportunity, it would be hard to pass up a night in a UFO, as long as you were guaranteed that there would be no unearthly visitors with probes visiting in the night. Sweden’s Treehotel, which is a complex of amazing tree houses in the woods, includes a UFO-shaped room that looks extra eerie at night. The UFO is made of lightweight materials so it can easily be supported by the trees and includes a hatch door with a retractible staircase, a double bed, a composting toilet and a dining area.

Thermal glass igloos with transparent dome ceilings give visitors to the Igloo Village of Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland an incomparable view of the Auroroa Borealis, the ‘Northern Lights’. The igloos are located in a very dark, wild area of a national park, and each one is not only warm and cozy but treated with frost preventative so those precious views are never obscured by hazy glass.

The bad news is, you can’t actually experience what it’s like to feel like a baby bird by sleeping in one of artist Suzanne Husky’s ‘Sleeper Cells‘ – yet. Husky proposed the little dwellings, made of recycled and reclaimed wood, as part of an off-grid hotel for San Francisco. Each one is lined with mattresses and quilts.

Reclaimed concrete pipes now have a surprising use in Mexico: sections of them have been crafted into hotel pods for two, each including a queen bed. The tubes were stacked to allow for more density and give the upper rooms a better view. Of course, they’re a little on the small side, but bath houses are available onsite.
