Creative Bus Conversion: Public Transit Turned Russian Night Club

Now here’s a fun and creative way to re-use a junky old decommissioned city bus: turn it into a rolling night club. A group of Russian entrepreneurs purchased an Ikarus 280 public transportation vehicle, ripped out the interior until there was nothing but a bare frame, and then used it as a shell to house their own version of a party bus, decking it out with leather sofas, televisions and more.

Located in St. Petersburg, the Barbus Maxi is now Russia’s largest and most expensive party bus and has its own dance floor, lounge, fully-stocked bar, and even a restroom. It rolls down the streets of the city each night, picking up customers and giving them a place to party until they reach their next stop.

Looking at the photos of the inside, you’d never guess what its former purpose was. Colored lights beam down onto highly reflective surfaces as fog from a smoke machine swirls around the interiors. A carved wooden sideboard conceals two refrigerators holding the drinks. The exterior is plastered with graphic black-and-white pop art imagery.
