That squeaking sound you hear? It’s the demise of off-peak-hours lubing – just one more casualty of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The nation’s economy could very well grind to a halt if salaried employees are forced to service their vehicles during normal business operating hours. Then again, widespread lockdowns and work-from-home policies have pretty much put the kibosh on “normal” business hours. Problem solved? (image via Lorie Shaull)
Listen up, Trailer Park Boys (and Girls). The fact that this sign even exists is a sad testament to the desperation stoked by the pandemic’s progress. On the bright (?) side, autopsies in Nova Scotia, Canada are about to become a lot more sanitary. (image via Indrid_Cold)
With the COVID-19 pandemic spawning body counts rivaling – and even surpassing – some of this nation’s most grueling wars, the Germ Warfare-like sign above is alarmingly appropriate. Wouldn’t it be great if the Maya Clinic stopped doing so much testing? No, no it wouldn’t – the “unseen” virus would be free to go about its business and we’d be blind to its progress. Too often these days, signs only serve to tell people what they can’t do. Not always, however – the many signs expressing our thanks to essential workers are a heartwarming reflection of the better qualities embodied in all of us. Be they line workers in food processing plants, staff at hospitals and clinics, or front-line workers enabling the wheels of society to keep on rolling, these people deserve – at the very least – our gratitude for keeping a bad situation from becoming unimaginably worse. Seeing Off 2020
The good news is the “annus horribilis” of 2020 is almost over. The bad news, however, is that it’s still got a few weeks with which to do that voodoo that it’s done so well… or UNwell, as the case may be. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a visit for the proverbial Giant Meteor just to put a flaming cherry on this pandemic cake. In the meantime, put your trust in Pfizer – the “little blue pill” people (and others like them) are set to give us a welcome shot in the arm for 2021! (image via Elvert Barnes)
