Initially at least, the Vespa Elettrica scooter is available in an attractive chrome gray metallic finish though customers can opt for any one of seven different trim colors. To quote Roberto Colaninno, CEO of Piaggio, the new Vespa Elettrica is “an extraordinarily advanced technical object that opens the door to solutions that will be passed on in history, just as the Vespa was passed on from 1946”.

Piaggio is one of several manufacturers (Renault and Honda, to name a couple) to have hitched their wagons to the star of electrification during in the past year. Renault and Honda are also forging similar paths by introducing new electric vehicles to an eagerly awaiting marketplace, but in truth there’s really nothing like a Vespa. Though pricing for the Vespa Elettrica has not been announced at press time, this exciting and innovative vehicle is set to be produced first in Italy, then distributed internationally in early 2018.

“It’s a gem of all-Italian technology, all made at home – that’s why it’s beautiful, works well and is innovative,” added Colannino in a statement to the local press. “It contains the future of our planet, OUR future.” (via WENN, Piaggio/Cover Images)
