Shaun the sheep easily could have blended in with a rocky landscape when he was found by a pair of farmers with so much wool that you could barely tell there was an animal under all of it. Peter and Netty Hazell believe that Shaun, as they named him, might just be the wooliest sheep in the world, with his fleece measuring an amazing 16 inches in length before it was sheared off.
The Merino Wether sheep was discovered roaming around the couple’s property in Stonehenge, Queensland, Australia with six years worth of wool growth. He had never before been sheared.
All of that fur was undoubtedly heavy for the sheep to carry around, as it ended up weighing in at nearly 52 pounds. It took experienced shearing expert Jack Monks over 20 minutes to remove all of it, and Shaun looks like a completely different animal after his makeover.
“What made Shaun’s fleece more unique,” says Netty, “was the cleanliness of it and the fact that it was so white, normally a fleece of 2 to 3 years growth would be yellow.”
