Even though everyone has their own favorite season, it’s hard to deny the beauty and majesty of mother nature throughout the year. Whether it be the melting of the snow, the swelling of springs and streams, and newly budding leaves of spring, the carefree and relaxing warmth of the summer, the harvest of autumn, or the beautiful, pristine snow, and holiday cheer of winter, each season brings with itself its own sense of wonderment. This post celebrates each of the four seasons and the beauty they bring us.

Spring is when nature comes alive! The weather slowly begins to get warmer, the days (sunlight hours) get longer, the snow begins to melt, and the frost finally goes away. The trees start to show leaves again, flowers begin to bloom, and the landscape becomes stunningly beautiful. Marking the end of winter, Spring is seen as a time of growth, renewal, and new life for plants as well as animals.

Summer tends to be one of the most popular seasons among families and especially children. Not only are the children out of school and college/university, but the warm weather provides perfect opportunities to get away from home wor work and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, going on picnics, and traveling. Summer is a time for relaxation, spending time with friends and family, and spending time on leisure activities that you don’t get time for during the rest of the year.

The Season of Autumn

With Spring, we begin to transition from the cold Winter to the warm Summer. With Autumn, we begin a similar transition from the warm Summer to the cold Winter. The season itself, however, is one of harvest and is symoblized with fruits, vegetables, and grains as seen in Thanksgiving, Sukkot, and the Chinese Moon Festival.

The Winter months tend to get a bad name because of the extremely cold weather. However, the season brings with it a unique beauty and a plethora of activities for those willing to give it another chance. These activities include sledging, skiing, snowboarding, as well as playful activities such as building snowmen and participating in snowball fights. Though widely associated with gloominess and ‘winter blues’, the season brings joyous celebrations for many, including Christmas and the new year.

Contrary to the conclusion that many people jump to at first blush, the season aren’t the same across the globe – and when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. The four seasons are a direct result of the yearly revolution of the Earth around the Sun, and the position of the country/continent relative to the sun (towards or away) marks the climate and the season in that region. As a quick rule, when the Earth’s axis tilts towards the sun (as it does between June and September) it is summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere. Similarly, when the axis tilts away from the sun (as it does between December and March), the seasons are reversed.
