Think minivans are for soccer moms? Well think again: German designer Nils Holger Moormann has combined luxury, sustainability and a dash of modern minimalism to make a minivan that’s outstanding in its field. Moormann’s creatively customized Volkswagen T6 is so distinct, in fact, it bears a “No.1” identification tag emblazoned with Moormann’s tiger-striped bull graphic logo.

Moormann became very familiar with the pros and cons of minivans over the course of many long-distance business trips. On some of these journeys, the designer was obliged to overnight in the van before continuing his travels the following day. Needless to say, Moormann found plenty of room for improvement but realized major vehicle manufacturers could not (or would not) ever build the minivan of his dreams.

Moormann was forced to apply the old maxim “if you want something done right, do it yourself” to the task of creating the ultimate personalized minivan. Being an experienced designer, he knew what had to be done and could access just the right resources to do it.

“I started the project in my own interest,” explains Moormann. “Freedom has always been my highest priority. I even spend my business travels in a camper and therefore it was natural to look for a proper solution.” In Moormann’s case, that solution would involve practical creature comforts that would both complement and reflect his love of the minimalist aesthetic.
