You say Urban Chicken Coop, we say HenCondo! Actually, Egganic Industries gets to say that as they’re the manufacturer of the Hen Condo, a “stealth coop for 2-3 hens in urban or suburban spaces.” Fitted with a handle on the front and a pair of wheels on the back, the HenCondo can quickly and easily be shifted from one place in the yard to another.

The HenCondo looks a little like a trashcan enclosure and the resemblance is purely intentional. According to the folks at Egganic Industries, the HenCondo has been designed to blend into the average suburban neighborhood’s assortment of white picket fences, central air conditioner blinds and trashcan stalls. The HenCondo doesn’t sacrifice function for form, however, as it features a nipple waterer, a snap-tight lid to keep predators out, and a feeder that dispenses for days.

Flick user Bjartmar Egill Harðarson is the source of the breathtaking image above. The rough beauty of the ancient structure (“this is my great grandfather’s chicken coop”) combined with otherworldly background scenery straight out of Lord of the Rings takes the concept of urban chicken coops to a new and higher level. What’s that you say? The scene doesn’t look remotely urban? Let’s just assume the landowner has a REALLY big backyard.
