Seoul Commune 2026 Project by Mass Studies

These green towers may look like something out of a Dr. Seuss book, but they are actually a clever design for a new kind of community in Seoul. The towers’ organic shapes mimic plants, and with the help of a special geotextile the exterior of the towers would be covered in living, growing vines. The hexagonal openings on the towers would be covered with various types of glass, including photovoltaic glass to provide clean energy for residents. The commune would feature public and private areas, including small personal rooms called “cells.” Going against the recent architectural explosion in Korea, this design proposes a sustainable and efficient community which relies on ecologically sound materials and practices.
