Ziggurat Sustainable City Concept, Dubai

This sustainable city design was created by Timelinks, a Dubai environmental design firm. Ziggurat was the name of the large pyramids in the Mesopotamian valley, and the name has been co-opted here to draw attention to the unique pyramid design of the city. Using clean energy and other environmentally-friendly features, this community could support up to one million people and be almost completely self-sufficient. Horizontal and vertical transportation inside the structure would be achieved by a 360 degree transportation network. The idea of living inside a massive machine may not be appealing now, but in the case of future large-scale climate change, we may have no choice but to build our cities inside protective shells.
